How to improve your typing speed
Typing improvement comes from accurate, repeatable movement—not from forcing your hands to move faster. Begin at a pace where you can keep at least 95% accuracy, then add speed gradually.
Use the correct posture
- Sit with your back supported and shoulders relaxed.
- Keep both feet stable and your elbows close to a right angle.
- Place the screen near eye level and keep wrists neutral.
- Rest your fingers lightly on the home row: A S D F and J K L ;.
Practice without watching the keyboard
Look at the text on screen and let your fingers learn each key position. If a key causes repeated mistakes, slow down and practice words that include it rather than repeating an entire test at maximum speed.
Choose accuracy before WPM
A fast result with many corrections is less useful than a slightly slower, controlled result. Aim for 95–98% accuracy before raising your speed target.
Build a simple student routine
- Warm up for one minute with easy English words.
- Practice one weak area—such as numbers, punctuation, or brackets—for five minutes.
- Complete a three-minute test and review the result.
- Finish with IT vocabulary or code related to your course.
Measure progress fairly
Compare tests with the same duration and mode. Weekly averages are more meaningful than one unusually fast attempt, so practice regularly and watch the trend.
