Supported formats and limitations

Input
PNG, JPEG or WebP image, up to 12 MB and 8,192 pixels per side
Output
PNG, JPEG or WebP download (WebP where your browser supports it)
Works on
Any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. JavaScript must be enabled.

Important limitations

Animated images, SVG and GIF are not accepted. Re-encoding does not keep EXIF metadata, and transparent areas become the chosen background colour when saving as JPEG. Keep your original file.

Privacy and file processing

Your image is processed in your browser and never uploaded. The result is created on your device.

About Image Converter

Sometimes a site only accepts JPG, a designer needs PNG, or you want lighter WebP images for a faster website. This Image Converter takes a PNG, JPEG or WebP image and saves it in the format you need: PNG, JPEG, or WebP when your browser can encode it. The width and height stay exactly the same, and the downloaded file is named after your original with the extension that matches its real format.

Add your file by drag-and-drop or the file picker, choose the target format, and after processing a side-by-side preview shows the original next to the converted image, with the new file size and the percentage change. Everything happens inside your browser tab, so the picture is never uploaded to a server. WebP works in both directions, so you can turn a WebP download into a JPG for a form that refuses WebP.

Features

  • Converts between PNG, JPEG and WebP in any direction at unchanged dimensions.
  • Adjustable 1–100 quality for JPEG and WebP output.
  • Fills transparent areas with a background colour of your choice when converting to JPEG.
  • Shows a clear error if your browser cannot encode WebP, instead of quietly saving a different format.
  • Side-by-side preview with file sizes, and a download named after the original whose extension matches the actual format.

Why use it

  • Meet the exact format a website, form or app asks for, including turning WebP into JPG.
  • Switch to WebP or JPEG to make web pages lighter.
  • Turn a JPEG into a lossless PNG for further editing without adding new compression loss.
  • Convert private images with no upload, sign-up or watermark.

How it works

Validate signature and dimensions → decode locally → draw pixels → encode selected MIME type → verify returned Blob type.

Examples

Transparent PNG logo to JPG

Input: logo.png, a PNG logo with a transparent background; Output format JPEG, background #ffffff

Result: Result: an opaque JPEG of the same size with the transparent areas filled white, plus its file size. Download: logo.jpg.

JPEG photo to WebP

Input: photo.jpg, a JPEG photo; Output format WebP, quality 80, in a browser that can encode WebP

Result: Result: a WebP image with identical dimensions, often a smaller file depending on the photo, with the percentage shown. Download: photo.webp.

WebP download to JPG for a form

Input: banner.webp, a still WebP image; Output format JPEG, quality 85

Result: Result: a JPEG with the same dimensions that forms rejecting WebP will accept. Download: banner.jpg.

Image Converter: frequently asked questions

Can I convert WebP, GIF, HEIC or SVG files?

WebP, yes: still WebP images are accepted as input as well as offered as output. GIF, SVG, HEIC, animated PNG and animated WebP files are rejected with a clear message. Input must be at most 12 MB, 8,192 pixels per side and 16 megapixels in total, and JPEG files must be baseline or progressive.

Why do I get an error when I choose WebP?

WebP output relies on your browser's built-in encoder. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and other Chromium browsers support it, but some browsers, notably Safari on many devices, may not. Rather than silently saving a PNG with the wrong name, the tool shows an error asking you to choose PNG or JPEG instead.

What happens to transparency when converting PNG to JPG?

JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent and semi-transparent pixels are blended onto the colour set in Background when flattening to JPEG, which is white by default. Choose a colour that matches the page where the image will appear. Converting to PNG or WebP keeps transparency intact.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so it preserves the pixels exactly as they are now, but it cannot restore detail already lost to JPEG compression. The PNG file will usually be larger. Converting to PNG is useful when you want to edit an image further without adding another round of JPEG compression.

Is any metadata kept after conversion?

Source metadata such as EXIF camera details and GPS location is not copied, because the image is redrawn and re-encoded from its pixels. The browser's encoder may add a little technical information of its own. Colour profiles can shift slightly, and rotation follows how your browser displays the original photo.

Are my files uploaded to convert them?

No. Conversion happens in your browser with its canvas and image encoders, and the converted file is created directly on your device. Nothing is stored or transmitted by the tool, so it is a safe choice for personal photos, scanned documents and client images that should not leave your computer or phone.
