About SIP Calculator

The SIP Calculator estimates what a Systematic Investment Plan could be worth after a chosen number of months. You enter a fixed monthly contribution, an expected annual return and the duration, and it returns the projected future value along with the total amount you put in. The gap between the two is your estimated gain.

It is built for Indian investors planning mutual fund SIPs, recurring deposits or any habit of investing a set amount every month. You can also choose whether each instalment goes in at the start or end of the month, which slightly changes the result. Returns are assumed constant for simplicity, so use it to set goals and compare scenarios, not to predict actual fund performance.

Features

  • Projects future value of equal monthly investments
  • Shows total contributions next to the projected value
  • Choice of beginning- or end-of-month instalments
  • Durations from 1 to 12,000 months
  • Handles a 0% return as a plain savings total

Why use it

  • Set realistic targets for goals like education or retirement
  • See how much of the corpus comes from growth versus your own money
  • Compare different monthly amounts and durations quickly
  • Free and private, with no login or data shared

Formula used

FV = payment × ((1+i)^months − 1)/i; multiply by (1+i) for beginning-of-month deposits, where i = annual rate/12.

Examples

₹5,000 a month for 10 years

Input: Monthly contribution 5000, Nominal annual return 12, Number of months 120, End of month

Result: Future value: 11,50,193.45
Contributions: 6,00,000.00

₹6 lakh invested could grow to about ₹11.5 lakh at a steady 12%.

Same SIP invested at the start of each month

Input: Monthly contribution 5000, Nominal annual return 12, Number of months 120, Beginning of month

Result: Future value: 11,61,695.38
Contributions: 6,00,000.00

Investing at the start of each month adds about ₹11,500 extra.

₹10,000 a month for 20 years

Input: Monthly contribution 10000, Nominal annual return 10, Number of months 240, End of month

Result: Future value: 75,93,688.36
Contributions: 24,00,000.00

₹24 lakh invested could become roughly ₹75.9 lakh at 10%.

SIP Calculator: frequently asked questions

How is SIP return calculated?

The calculator uses the future value of a series of equal payments: FV = P × ((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i, where P is the monthly amount, i is the annual return divided by 12 and n is the number of months. For beginning-of-month instalments the result is multiplied by (1 + i). Total contributions are simply P × n.

Are SIP returns guaranteed?

No. Mutual fund returns depend on market performance and can be higher, lower or even negative over some periods. This calculator assumes the same return every month, which real markets never deliver, and it ignores expense ratios, exit loads and taxes. Use it for planning only; it is not investment advice. Read scheme documents carefully or consult a registered advisor.

Should I choose beginning or end of month?

Pick the option that matches when your money is actually invested. If your SIP debit happens early in the month, Beginning of month is closer to reality and gives a slightly higher value because each instalment earns one extra month of growth. Many online SIP calculators assume beginning of month, which is why their figures can be a little higher.

Why might my result differ from other SIP calculators?

Calculators differ in their assumptions. This one divides the annual return by 12 to get a monthly rate and lets you choose instalment timing. Others may convert the annual return to an effective monthly rate or always assume beginning-of-month investing. Neither approach is wrong; just compare scenarios using the same tool consistently.

Can I calculate a step-up SIP here?

No. This calculator assumes the same monthly contribution throughout. To approximate a step-up SIP, where you raise the amount every year, you could run separate calculations for each stage, but the results would need combining by hand. For a single one-time investment instead of monthly payments, use the lumpsum calculator.

How do I enter years instead of months?

Multiply the years by 12 and enter the result in Number of months. For example, 5 years is 60, 15 years is 180 and 25 years is 300. The field needs a whole number between 1 and 12,000, so half-month periods are not accepted, and amounts must be typed as plain numbers such as 5000, without commas or ₹. The future value is then shown with 2 decimals and Indian digit grouping, for example 11,50,193.45.

Results are estimates for general information, not financial, medical, legal, tax or property advice. Confirm important figures with the relevant institution or a qualified professional.
