About Unlock PDF
Unlock PDF saves a copy of a protected PDF without its password, so you are not asked for it every time and other tools can work with the file. Bank statements, e-tickets and utility bills are often protected this way.
Enter the password you already know; qpdf running in your browser decrypts the document and writes an unlocked copy. The tool does not guess or crack passwords, and it reports a wrong password clearly.
Features
- Removes open passwords and permission restrictions
- Supports RC4 and AES encrypted PDFs
- Clear wrong-password message
- Runs locally with qpdf compiled to WebAssembly
Why use it
- Stop retyping the password
- Prepare files for merging, compressing or editing
- Your password and file stay on your device
How it works
qpdf (compiled to WebAssembly) opens the file with the password you provide and writes a decrypted copy. A wrong password is reported clearly and nothing is produced.
Examples

Is it legal to unlock a PDF?
Unlocking documents you own or are authorised to use is generally fine. Do not use the tool to bypass restrictions on documents you have no right to.
I entered the right password but it fails.
Check the keyboard layout and capital letters. Some banks use your date of birth or part of your customer ID in a specific format.
Does unlocking change the content?
No. Only the encryption is removed; pages are unchanged.
