Important limitations
This converter extracts the text, line breaks, paragraphs, page breaks and bold or italic styling. It does not recreate the exact layout, images, tables or columns. Scanned PDFs contain pictures of text and need OCR, which this tool does not do; it tells you when a PDF has no text.
Privacy and file processing

About PDF to Word
PDF to Word turns the text of a PDF into a DOCX document you can edit in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, WPS or LibreOffice. It is ideal when you need to reuse the wording of a report, update an old letter or quote a long passage without retyping it.
The converter focuses on getting the words right. It rebuilds lines and paragraphs from the text positions in the PDF, keeps bold and italic styling and starts each PDF page on a new Word page. Complex layouts with columns, tables and images are not recreated, and scanned PDFs need OCR, so the tool tells you plainly when a file has no text to extract.
Features
- Real DOCX output (Office Open XML), not a renamed file
- Paragraph detection from line spacing
- Bold, italic and font size carried over
- One Word page break per PDF page
- Detects scanned PDFs without a text layer
Why use it
- Reuse text without retyping
- Works with Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice
- Your document never leaves your device
How it works
PDF.js reads the text items on each page with their positions and fonts. Lines are rebuilt from item positions, joined into paragraphs by line spacing, and written into a standards-compliant DOCX package (Office Open XML) generated in your browser.
Examples
Text report
Input: 6-page PDF report exported from a word processor
Result: A 6-page DOCX with the same paragraphs, ready to edit.
Scanned letter
Input: A PDF made from a phone photo
Result: A clear message that the file has no text layer and needs OCR.
PDF to Word: frequently asked questions
Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?
No. This converter delivers the text and basic styling so you can edit it. Exact layout, images and tables are not reproduced.
Does it work with Hindi or Marathi PDFs?
It extracts whatever Unicode text the PDF contains. Some PDFs store Indian-language text with custom font encodings; their extracted text can be garbled, which no converter can fully fix.
Can I convert password-protected PDFs?
Unlock the file first with Unlock PDF, using its password, then convert it.
